The Soul Assassin
Kevin “The Soul Assassin” Ross is one of the most accomplished American Muay Thai fighters to ever compete. Lion Fight Super Middleweight World Champion. Over 70 professional fights in Thailand, Japan, and across the United States. He did not just visit Thailand to train — he lived there, fought there, and earned respect the hard way.
That distinction matters. Most American Muay Thai fighters compete under modified rulesets in the US. Ross fought under full Thai rules in Thailand. He tested himself against Thai fighters on their home turf. That is a different sport entirely.
Trained Under Master Toddy
Ross began training under Master Toddy at his Las Vegas gym in 2003. At the time, Toddy’s gym was one of the premier Muay Thai training centers in the US, producing champions across Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA. Randy Couture, Maurice Smith, Gina Carano — the gym had that kind of pedigree.
Ross absorbed Toddy’s system: the deception, the timing disruption, the psychological game. But he added his own element. Pressure. Relentless, forward-moving pressure that broke opponents mentally before the body shots finished them physically.
His fighting style is defined by volume and aggression. He does not wait for openings. He creates them by overwhelming opponents with output. Kicks, knees, punches — thrown in combinations that do not stop until the referee steps in or the round ends.
“Problem on the switch. All right? Go on one, two, and then you’re kind of hopping into this…” — that is how Ross teaches the switch kick. Direct. Mid-technique. He talks the way he fights: no wasted motion.
Punishment Muay Thai: A Team Effort
The Punishment Muay Thai program is different from most FightScience courses. Ross did not film every technique himself. Instead, he curated a team of fighters and coaches from the Houston and Texas Muay Thai scene — each one a specialist in specific areas of the game.
The team includes:
- Kevin Ross — Program creator, host, and technique contributor
- Kru Robert Perez — Recognized Kru, head striking coach at 4oz Fight Club in Houston
- Cyrus Washington — International competitor, fought in 10+ countries, lived in Thailand
- Michael Corely — Elbow and clinch specialist from Spring, Texas
This was a deliberate choice. Ross wanted each section of the program taught by the person who does it best. Cyrus handles countering and clinch throws. Michael covers elbows and clinch sparring. Kru Perez brings the structured coaching methodology. Ross ties it all together.
The result is a program with range. You get multiple perspectives on Thai boxing from fighters who have competed at every level — from local Texas smokers to international stadium fights.
The American Nak Muay
Ross earned the title of Nak Muay the way it is supposed to be earned. He went to Thailand. He trained at Thai gyms. He fought Thai fighters under Thai rules. He lost some. He won more. And he brought everything he learned back to the American Muay Thai community.
His coaching philosophy reflects that journey. He does not teach a watered-down, kickboxing-adjacent version of Muay Thai. He teaches the real thing — clinch included, elbows included, the mental warfare included. The techniques in Punishment are the same ones he used to win a world title.
