Elbows Done Right
Michael Corely is a Muay Thai fighter from Spring, Texas — just north of Houston. His specialty is elbows. Not the wild, swinging elbows that look dramatic and miss by a mile. The kind that are set up, disguised, and land because the opponent never saw them coming.
“A lot of people, man, they throw elbows wrong,” Corely says at the top of his first technique video. He is not being arrogant. He is stating a fact that anyone who has watched amateur Muay Thai can confirm. Elbows are the most misused weapon in the sport. Fighters throw them without setups, without angles, without any thought about what happens if they miss.
Corely teaches the setups. The entries. The deception that makes elbows land. His approach is direct and efficient — set it up, deliver it, move on.
Clinch Work From the Houston Scene
Beyond elbows, Corely’s sections in the Punishment program cover clinch sparring and sweeps. His clinch work is practical and pressure-tested. Switch grips to set up sweeps. Fight for position with live resistance. Use angles to create openings for knees and throws.
The Houston Muay Thai scene is competitive. Fighters train hard and spar harder. Corely’s technique reflects that environment — nothing theoretical, nothing untested. If it is in his section of the Punishment program, he has used it against people who were trying to stop him.
Part of the Punishment Team
Corely is one of four fighters and coaches featured in the Punishment Muay Thai program, curated by Lion Fight World Champion Kevin Ross. He contributes 7 technique videos covering elbow setups, clinch sparring, and sweep mechanics.
His no-nonsense, Houston-area training style fits the Punishment philosophy: move forward, apply pressure, and use every weapon available.
