A Message From Scott Sullivan
If you're new to BJJ — or thinking about starting — I built this system for you.
I've been teaching martial arts for over 30 years. I've trained with Rickson Gracie, Relson Gracie, Carlos Machado, and John Machado. I've competed in kickboxing, shootboxing, and BJJ. And after all that experience, here's what I know for sure:
Most people quit BJJ in the first 6 months. Not because they can't learn it — but because nobody teaches them the right way. They walk into class, get thrown into sparring, and spend weeks getting smashed without understanding what's happening or why.
That's why I created this system. It's the same progression I use with my own students at Bam Bam Martial Arts in Houston:
- Start with defense — learn to survive every position so the mat stops being scary
- Build your guard game — the closed guard is the foundation of everything in BJJ
- Develop submissions — chokes, triangles, and kneebars that actually work
- Master the back — the single most dominant position in grappling
There's no information overload. No jumping between 5 different instructors with different teaching styles. Just me, walking you through everything step by step, the same way I'd teach you if you walked into my academy today.
You don't need to be athletic. You don't need experience. You just need to be willing to learn.
